Hello preschool families!

We are now using CANVAS to provide families with information about our class. If you need should need anything else please do not hesitate to email me at kolensks@pwcs.edu. You can contact me at any time during the week. I will get back to you within 24 hours.

Quick Tips:

Read to your child (just 20 minutes a day is sufficient)

Set regular meal times and share a meal with your child in a set location if possible

Keep a schedule that meets YOUR family's needs (waking up, play and learning, bedtimes, mealtimes)

Make time for play! Playing is how they learn.

Outside activities are not prohibited. Maintain a safe distance from others but do go outside with your child for fresh air, walks, ball play, nature walks, etc.

MOST IMPORTANTLY Take care of yourselves physically and MENTALLY!!!!

Hello, my name is Kaila Kolen-Smith. You can call me Ms. Kaila. Welcome to R. Dean
Kilby Elementary School! Your child is now a preschool special education student in our class. My teaching assistant’s name is Sasha Budd. You can call her Ms. Sasha.  We are excited to be your child’s teachers this year! This is my 17th year teaching special education preschool. I graduated from George Mason University with a Master's Degree in Education. I have endorsements to teach early/primary education Pre-K to 3rd grade, Early Childhood Special Education and English as a Second Language Pre-K to 12th grade. I began teaching in Fredericksburg and moved to Prince William County 6 years ago. I am now a proud teacher in Prince William County at Kilby Elementary!!! I also have three children, Jaiden (14), Jabril (12) and Joel (9). I believe when you and I work together as a family, your child can achieve their greatest potential during this school year. Teaching is one of my greatest loves and especially enjoy developing relationships with the families and children I am blessed to work with! I look forward to an amazing school year!
