CARE OF TEXTBOOKS, LIBRARY BOOKS, AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Students are responsible for all textbooks, library books, electronic devices, charging cords, and cases issued to them during the school year.  Payment is required for all lost or damaged items.  All monies collected are recorded by the school’s Finance Specialist and paid to the proper fund for replacement purposes.

BREAKFAST AND LUNCH

Hot breakfast and lunches are served every day free of charge for every student. Breakfast is served between 8:30 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. each day. Please check your child’s schedule for their designated lunch time. If parents are coming to eat lunch with their child, no more than two family members will be permitted due to limited spacing. There are designated tables on the stage so that you can enjoy your lunch. Parents are asked to clean up after themselves once they have finished eating. Please remember to pick up your ID in the front office when you return your visitor’s badge.

 DRESS CODE

Please be aware that the Prince William County Public Schools Code of Behavior defines the dress code for all schools in Prince William County and the code will be enforced at Kilby Elementary. Tasteful and traditional school attire is expected for both students and adults when in the school. Clothing should be clean and neat and conform to the standards of good taste and decency. Clothing that is unacceptable includes halter-tops, dresses or tops with spaghetti straps, short-shorts, and clothing that exposes the stomach, hips, or underwear of the wearer. Clothing with wording or graphics that are suggestive, or which serves to bring attention to private parts of a student's body (i.e., writing across the seat of pants/shorts) is not allowed. Jeans or overalls must be worn in such a manner as to not present a problem to the wearer in terms of ability to walk or move about the school. Clothing that depicts suggestive, vulgar, or obscene language or graphics, weapons, drugs, drug paraphernalia, alcohol, or gang symbols are not permitted. Bandanas or forehead bands are not permitted for any students. Hats/caps will not be worn inside the building. Rubber-sole sports shoes are recommended due to the daily recess period and increased P.E. classes. Loose fitting sandals and flip-flops are not safe for school wear.

Hoodies, hats, and sunglasses must be removed from head once in the building.

CELL PHONES

Students are permitted to bring their cell phone to school. However, once students are in the building, the cell phone is to be silenced and placed in their back packs. Students are not permitted to have their phones on them throughout the day.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION

Should you have questions or concerns regarding your child, we ask that you first touch base with the classroom teacher. The classroom teacher should serve as the first point of contact, as the teacher is usually privy to most information regarding your child. After reaching out to the classroom teacher and a resolution was not established, please contact our school’s Assistant Principal, Amy Tuthill or Administrative Intern, Teresa Woodson, if you find that you are displeased with the outcome, please contact our school’s Principal, Chanel Evelyn. We value our partnerships and strive to maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders.
