ARRIVAL

The school day begins at 8:45 a.m. with morning announcements and ends at 3:25 p.m. Students should not arrive to school before 8:30 a.m.  Staff members will not be on duty prior to 8:45 a.m. so it is very important that students are not dropped off prior to that time. The safety of our students is our number ONE priority. If your child is having breakfast in the cafeteria, he/she may enter the building at 8:30 a.m. Any parent in the building should exit the building before the 1st bell rings. Parents should not accompany their child to class. Students should be in their classrooms and ready to begin the day at 8:45 a.m. Students arriving after 8:45 a.m. are tardy and must be accompanied by a parent to the front desk to be signed in and obtain a tardy pass.  Please be sure to park in the parking lot. Please do not park in the car rider lane or bus loop if you need to sign your student in because he/she is tardy.

KINDERGARTEN DISMISSAL

As dictated by county policy, kindergarten students must be accompanied to and from bus stops by a parent, guardian, or other designated individual.  Kindergarten parents will need to complete an Authorization for Pick-up Form. Those authorized to take custody of kindergarten students must be listed on the Emergency Data Card/ Bus Transportation Form maintained at the school and they must have identification available when receiving a student at the bus stop.  An older sibling who is at least 12 years old may take custody of a kindergarten student at the bus stop.  No change of custody is required if an older sibling is riding the bus with a kindergartener unless the parent has indicated otherwise.  Students who do not have an adult or older sibling waiting for them at the bus stop will be driven back to school.  It is then the responsibility of the parent to pick the child up from school in a timely manner.

EARLY DISMISSALS

Remember instructional lessons continue until 3:25 p.m. Please avoid unscheduled early pick-up as this impacts our dismissal process unless you have an appointment. Early dismissals should be scheduled in advance and should occur before 3:10 p.m. to allow the office staff to prepare for dismissal.

CHANGE IN DISMISSAL

Whenever it is necessary for a student to change the way he/she is going home after school than what is normally assigned, parents must send a note to school. For the safety of our students, telephone, fax and email dismissal changes are not allowed. If a student is going to visit a friend and needs to ride a different bus, the parents of both students need to send a note to school.  The office will approve these notes.

KISS AND RIDE

If you choose to drive your child to and from school each day, please stop by the front office to complete a car rider application. Parents may only drop off students in the Kiss and Ride traffic pattern in the front of the building.  Please make sure that your student exits your car on the building side with the assistance of staff members. Please wait in line for your turn to pick up your student.  Once you complete the car rider application, you will be given a number to display in the window of your vehicle. We will call riders by numbers. Pull your car forward as far as possible in the line.  If you choose to park in the lot, please turn your car off, walk to where your student is waiting, and hold your student’s hand as you return to your car.  Please do not park in undesignated areas.  Please do not pass other cars in line.

Please drive slowly on school property and exhibit courtesy to others.

BUS RIDERS

School bus riders in Prince William County are required to observe rules of safety and good citizenship while riding on a bus and while waiting at a designated bus stop. Standards for safe, courteous conduct will be in effect beginning the first day of school.  It is essential that bus riders cooperate and adhere to the bus regulations.  Please read the Code of Behavior for more information.  Parents are requested to review the information with their student. Please arrive at the bus stop 10 minutes before the posted time. Remember, riding the bus is a privilege.

Kindergarten students who do not have an adult or older sibling waiting for them at the bus stop will be driven back to school. All adults must present an ID to the bus driver before the student is released off the bus.  It is then the responsibility of the parent to pick the student up from school in a timely manner.

WALKERS

Students who walk home from school will be dismissed at 3:25 p.m. Kindergarten, first, and second grade walkers will be dismissed from the exit doors near the back playground (Door 4). Anyone picking up a kindergarten student will need to present ID before the student is released.
