Reading Support at Kilby

Do You Have Concerns with Your Child’s Reading Skills?

Reading & writing are very complex skills.

Students must be able to break down unknown words fast enough to understand the meaning behind them. They also need to be able to spell unknown words and write complete thoughts that connect to a given topic.

Kilby Elementary School offers reading support to grades K-2 and grades 3-5.

Grades K-2 Reading Support:

All students in grades K-2 are screened with the (PALs) Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening.  Any student who does not meet the Fall benchmark (shows weak areas with foundational reading skills) receives 30 minutes daily of reading intervention with research-based intervention.

All PALs tutors have completed 18-hours of training on the Science of Reading from PWCS and receive additional training during the school year from the KBES Reading Specialist.  The KBES Reading Team (Reading Specialist, Title 1 Reading Teachers) also work with daily small groups or one-on-one with students who need extra reading/writing support.
