Kilby and the county have policies and regulations to create a cohesive academic community where students can learn in a safe and organized environment.
Students are responsible for all textbooks, library books, electronic devices, charging cords, and cases issued to them during the school year. Payment is required for all lost or damaged items. All monies collected are recorded by the school’s Finance Specialist and paid to the proper fund for replacement purposes.
Hot breakfast and lunches are served every day free of charge for every student.
Eating with peers is an important part of a student’s social development. We also plan many celebrations during our lunch time such as Honor Roll Ice Party, Attendance Celebrations, etc.
If parents are coming to eat lunch with their students:
Please consider volunteering before or after eating lunch with your students. We love having parents volunteer!
Please be aware that the Prince William County Schools Code of Behavior defines the dress code for all schools in Prince William County and the code will be enforced at Kilby Elementary.
At Kilby please:
Hoodies, hats, and sunglasses must be removed from head once in the building.
Students are permitted to bring their cell phone to school. However, once students are in the building, the cell phone is to be silenced and placed in their back packs. Students are not permitted to have their phones on them throughout the day.
During state assessments, like the VA SOL, 3rd-5th grade students will be asked to show their teacher their phone is off. A cell phone ringing during an VA SOL could impact a student and cause an irregularity which in turn may result in them having to take the VA SOL again.
Should you have questions or concerns regarding your child, we ask that you first touch base with the classroom teacher. The classroom teacher should serve as the first point of contact, as the teacher is usually privy to most information regarding your child. If, after reaching out to the classroom teacher, a resolution was not established, please contact one of our school’s Assistant Principals, Amy Tuthill or Teresa Woodson. If you find that you are displeased with the outcome, please contact our school’s Principal, Chanel Evelyn. We value our partnerships and strive to maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders.
The Kilby Parent Teacher Association (PTA) promotes the educational welfare of our students. Parents are encouraged to join and participate in the activities of the P.T.A.
The Kilby Advisory Council consists of parent and teacher representatives. The purpose of the Kilby ES Advisory Council is to collaborate with the principal to assess the educational needs of the school and to provide input on the school plan and operational budget. The advisory council is made up of the principal, assistant principal, five parents, eight staff members and a PTA board representative. The eight staff members will represent the following areas of the school: each grade level, special education and/or specialist and classified. The council meets quarterly (date/ time subject to change due to interest). Parents wishing to speak during open chair, must contact Mrs. Evelyn about the subject you wish to address so it may be added to the agenda.
ALL parents are invited and encouraged to participate in the Kilby P.T.A. and the Kilby Advisory Council.
